Vic: Alleged hit run accident kills man, leaves woman critical

Victorian police are speaking to a youth over an alleged hit and run last night that's
left one man dead and a woman critically injured.

Police spokeswoman MAREE MCKINNON says a red-coloured Rover sedan smashed into a Toyota
sedan that was leaving a carpark at Ferntree Gully in Melbourne's outer east about 11.15pm
(AEDT).

The male driver of the Toyota, aged in his 30s, died about 45 minutes later, and a
female passenger in her 20s was critically injured.

Ms MCKINNON says the driver of the Rover left the scene of the accident.

She says a youth from Ferny Creek in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne is assisting
police with their inquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
