QLD: Toxic hazards delay factory fire probe
BRISBANE, April 6 AAP - Investigations into a million dollar spray-can paint factory fire
here yesterday had been delayed because of toxic hazards, the Queensland Fire and Rescue
Authority said.
The Dy-Mark factory at west suburban Wacol housed paints, aerosols, LPG, cardboard and
lead.
It was destroyed in a fire which broke out about 11am.
Fire investigators were waiting for the all-clear from the emergency services division of
the Chemical Hazards Unit before resuming, spokesman Danny Carson said.
"The fire is believed to have started at the rear of the factory but at this stage we
cannot gain access," Mr Carson said.
Police said burglar alarms at the factory were sounding when firefighters arrived but
they could have been set off by heat from the blaze.
