OWNER SAYS DINER SHOULD LOOK LIKE A DINER, BUT MALTA SAYS NO.(CAPITAL REGION)

Should form follow function? Peter Vasilakos thinks so. But Town Planning Board officials apparently disagree -- at least when it comes to designing a diner.

Vasilakos, who is building the Malta Diner at the southwest corner of Route 67 and Dunning Street, said the modular structure is designed to look like what it is -- a diner.

But Town Planning Board members, at a stormy meeting on Wednesday, told Vasilakos the design was not the colonial-style building the two sides had agreed on when building permits for the project were issued this past spring.
