NSW:Victorian Government wants federal funding for synchrotron
The Victorian Government has been reportedly forced to ask Canberra for funding forits much heralded synchrotron project.
The Australian newspaper reports today the national synchrotron for drug research hasalready suffered a 12 per cent blow-out in estimated constructions costs.
The paper says in June last year Victorian Premier STEVE BRACKS gazumped Queenslandand NSW in the race to build the national synchrotron.
He announced $100 million would come from state funding, with the rest of the moneyto come from the private sector.
He also announced the synchrotron would be built without federal finance.
But the paper says the project has failed to attract the $57 million in private sectorfunding and a formal request has been made to the HOWARD Government for money to meetsits construction and running costs.
